Description

The synthetic chemogenetic channel PSAM4-5HT3-HC was created by fusing a mutated α7-nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (engineered to bind the antismoking drug Varenicline at subtherapeutic concentrations) with the ion pore-domain of the 5HT3 (serotonin receptor 3A).
It has the cation-selective conductivity characteristics of 5HT3 receptors. When activated by the agonist varenicline, it causes the cell membrane to depolarize and form an action potential.
