A brain tumor occurs when abnormal cells propagate in the brain. There are two main types of brain tumors, non-cancerous (benign) and cancerous (malignant). Depending on the tumor’s size, type, and location, brain tumors have a variety of symptoms. The most common symptoms include headaches, seizures, memory loss, depression, vomiting and mental changes.

The cause of most brain tumors is unknown, but there are some risk factors related to brain tumor development such as age, radiation and genetic conditions. For example, mutations and deletions of tumor suppressor genes are thought to be the cause of some forms of brain tumors.

Recently, different methods are being studied for brain tumor treatments, such as dendritic cells or vaccines aimed at a specific molecule on the surface of the tumor cells.
