Calcium Channel Related Research Reagents

Calcium channels are ion channels that have selective permeability to calcium ions. Calcium is a vital signaling molecule that can mediate muscle contraction, nerve transmission, and gene expression. Disruption of normal calcium channel function causes a variety of diseases, such as inherited calcium channel diseases including neurological diseases (X-linked night blindness) and hemiplegic migraine; musculoskeletal diseases such as hypokalemic periodic paralysis and malignant hyperthermia; and cardiovascular diseases, including ventricular cardiomyopathy and familial polymorphic ventricular tachycardia.

There are two main types of calcium channels: voltage-gated calcium channels and ligand-gated calcium channels.

Voltage-gated calcium channels

Voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCC), also known as voltage-dependent calcium channels (VDCC), are a set of voltage-gated channels found in the cell membrane that can excite cells (e.g., muscles, glial cells, neurons, etc.). The ion channel is permeable to calcium ion Ca2+.

Ligand-gated calcium channels

Ligand-gated calcium channels: the receptor-operated calcium channels, are activated by ligand binding. For example, IP3 receptor releases calcium ions from ER / SR in response to IP3.

Creative Biolabs provides a variety of calcium channel blockers, which can prevent calcium ions from passing through the channels on the cell membrane, and are used to treat hypertension and epilepsy. Our product profolio also lncludes a series of products for calcium channel receptors research, including monoclonal antibodies, labeled antibodies, proteins, assay kits, and small molecule activiators and inhibitors.
