Description

Congo red solution is used to stain amyloid deposits in the central nervous system. This solution can be used for frozen or paraffin-embedded sections of preferably formaldehyde-fixed tissue. The following procedure has been shown to produce excellent staining results on sections of animal and post-mortem human brains. However, changes in tissue and tissue preparation may require shortening or extending the duration of steps 2 and 3 for optimal results. The staining process takes approximately 70 minutes and should be performed at room temperature.
