Description
Main Kv1 subunits in mammalian brains are voltage-gated potassium channel subunits Kv1.1, Kv1.2, Kv1.3, Kv1.4, and Kv1.6. A crucial type A potassium channel that controls the excitability of neurons in the central nervous system is voltage-gated potassium channel Kv1.4. The behaviour of this channel is of particular clinical importance, as hypertrophy and heart failure can result from up-regulation of Kv1.4 expression.
