Description
Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) is a major component of very low density lipoprotein (VLDL). The main function of vldl is to remove excess cholesterol from the blood and bring it to the liver for processing. Maintaining normal cholesterol levels is essential to prevent cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks and strokes. Apolipoprotein E is a type of lipoprotein. Apolipoprotein E is related to a variety of cardiovascular diseases. There are three subtypes of apolipoprotein (slightly different). These three subtypes are called ApoE2, E3, and E4. ApoE2 seems to be one of several genetic factors that increase the risk of heart disease and stroke, while ApoE4 is a risk factor for coronary artery disease. In addition, ApoE4 is also believed to play a role in type 2 Alzheimer's disease.
