Product Overview

Description

Rat olfactory ensheathing cells are isolated from olfactory bulb tissue; olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) are a special kind of glial cells that are functionally between Schwann cells and oligodendrocytes, with neurotrophic and gliosis inhibition , scar formation, sheathing, etc.; it provides a suitable microenvironment and strong migration characteristics for axonal growth, making it one of the ideal candidate cells for promoting central nervous system regeneration. Olfactory ensheathing cells are one of the very few regenerative cells in the central nervous system that have been discovered so far. They are characterized by lifelong nerve regeneration functions and can also release a variety of neurotrophic factors and nerve adhesion molecules. Glial cells, considered to be the most myelinating cells, are increasingly used to treat spinal cord injuries. Olfactory ensheathing cells share the same phenotype with glial cells and Schwann cells. They can both promote axon regeneration. The main difference is that olfactory ensheathing cells exist not only in the central nervous system, but also in the peripheral nerves. Olfactory ensheathing cells are considered to be highly plastic cells, which can exhibit a variety of cell morphologies and cell surface markers. During the development of the olfactory system, olfactory ensheathing cells have different antigenic expressions according to their tissue localization. type, in which P75NTR, GFAP, and O4 can mark most of the olfactory ensheathing cells in vivo, however, O4-positive olfactory ensheathing cells in the outer nerve layer of the olfactory bulb can still differentiate into E-NCAM-positive cell layers within the P75NTR-positive cell layer, and A certain percentage of OECs were negative for P75NTR and positive for NY and S100 phenotypes. Neurons in the olfactory mucosa are the only neurons that grow after birth and continue to differentiate in adulthood, with a lifespan of 4-12 weeks, and as new cells grow, new innervation relationships are established. Olfactory ensheathing cells exist on the nerve layer of the olfactory nerve and the olfactory bulb, along the entire length of the olfactory nerve, from the peripheral nervous system to the central nervous system.
