Description
A complete medium for normal Schwann cells that includes 25 ml of foetal bovine serum (FBS) and Schwann Cell Growth Supplement (SCGS, Cat. No. NCL-21P6-123) is known as Schwann Cell Medium (SCM). It is a sterile liquid medium that includes vitamins, trace minerals, essential and non-essential amino acids, organic and inorganic chemicals, hormones, growth factors, and foetal bovine serum at a low concentration (5%). When the medium is equilibrated in an incubator with a 5% CO2/95% air environment, it is HEPES and bicarbonate buffered and has a pH of 7.4. The medium is designed (quantitatively and qualitatively) to offer a nutritional environment that is properly balanced and to specifically promote the development of healthy Schwann cells in vitro.
