Product Overview

Description

Tau contains approximately 85 potential phosphate sites that can be heavily phosphorylated by many kinases such as CDK5, MAP kinase, or GSK3β, which is the main kinase of Tau. Hyperphosphorylation of Tau causes microtubules to rupture and Tau aggregates into Pairs of helical filaments or neurofibrillary tangles become entangled, and the cell dies.

Tau hyperphosphorylation and aggregation are associated with a variety of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Tauopathy, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease. These two phenomena associated with beta-amyloid aggregation are major hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease.
