inquiryDescription
Mitogen-activated protein kinase 8 is encoded by the MAPK8/JNK1 gene and is a member of the MAP kinase family. MAP kinase acts as an integration point for a variety of biochemical signals and participates in a variety of cellular processes, such as proliferation, differentiation, transcriptional regulation and development. This kinase is activated by various cellular stimuli and targets specific transcription factors, and thus mediates immediate early gene expression in response to cellular stimuli. It was found that tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) activation of this kinase is necessary for TNF-α-induced apoptosis. This kinase is also involved in ultraviolet radiation-induced apoptosis, which is thought to be related to the cell death pathway mediated by cytochrome c. Studies on MAPK8 mouse counterparts indicate that this kinase plays a key role in T cell proliferation, apoptosis and differentiation. Five alternatively spliced transcription variants encoding different isoforms have been reported (provided by RefSeq, June 2013).
The mouse anti-human MAPK8/JNK1 antibody can detect a 44/52 kDa band. The antibody has been extensively validated by Western blot using whole cell lysates.
