Product Overview

Description

Fast-spike interneurons in the cortex and hippocampus, as well as neurons in the globus pallidus, are among the neurons that emit at high frequencies and are particularly abundant in Kv3.1. They enable channels containing Kv3.1 subunits to promote the rapid post-hyperpolarization period, thereby minimising recovery rate of sodium channel inactivation, and rapidly repolarize action potentials without affecting the threshold of action potential generation. Fast spikes in inhibitory neurons suffer damage as a result of pharmacological or genetic disruption of Kv3 currents, which also increases epilepsy susceptibility.
