Description

The Ranvier nodes of the sensory and motor axons of the PNS, as well as the output neurons of the cerebellum, cortex, and hippocampus of the central nervous system, are the major sites of hNav1.6 expression. Action potentials in central neurons and their myelinated axons are initiated and transmitted by hNav1.6. Mice with motor endplate disease and cerebellar ataxia are caused by mutations in the Nav1.6 gene or its deletion. Potential targets for analgesic and anti-epileptic medications include this channel.
