Modulators

Understanding how cells behave allows us to see how they are normally regulated when they are in a normal state. These findings can help us better understand how these mechanisms are altered during the beginning and progression of neurodegenerative diseases and identify new biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Creative Biolabs offers a range of modulators, including compounds (inhibitors and agonists) and aptamers, which are valuable tools for researchers.

Compounds

Small molecule compounds mainly affect how proteins work. Right now, small molecule compounds are mostly used to target enzymes, ion channels, and receptors. The role of small molecule compounds can vary depending on the type of target. Even though small molecule compounds are grouped into categories like enzyme inhibitors, ion channel blockers, and receptor agonists/antagonists based on their target types, these divisions aren't always clear-cut because some targets have multiple functions.

Aptamers

Aptamers are oligonucleotides or peptides that have a high degree of selectivity and affinity when binding to particular target molecules. Their strong affinity and specificity have earned them the moniker "antibody alternatives". Aptamers are naturally found in riboswitches, but they may also be manufactured through repeated in vitro selections and bind to a wide range of molecular targets, including small molecules, proteins, nucleic acids, and cells.

To further advance the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, numerous efforts have been made by researchers to create inhibitors of amyloid aggregation. Aptamers are a prospective inhibitor of Aβ aggregation due to their ease of modification, cost-effectiveness, repeatability, biocompatibility, stability, and Aβ selectivity.

Applications

Modulators can help you with:

  • Answer questions on the involvement of specific signaling nodes in disease.
  • Investigate the mechanism of action of disease drugs by inhibiting the main pathway to observe the activation of alternative pathways.
  • Identify protein interactions or kinase substrates by activating or inhibiting individual signaling nodes.
