Description
The kit can use a fluorescent microplate reader to detect the live population of mammalian cells based on the integrity of the cell membrane and the intracellular esterase activity. Calcein AM is a widely used live cell marker. Non-fluorescent calcein AM penetrates the complete cell membrane and is converted into calcein (fluorescent form) by intracellular esterase. Therefore, the number of living cells is indicated by the intensity of green fluorescence in the cytosol, excited at 495 nm and emitting at 530 nm. The low cytotoxicity of Calcein AM also enables long-term cell tracking and cell proliferation assays.
