Product Overview
Description
The kit can use a fluorescent microplate reader to detect the integrity of cell membranes, thereby detecting live and dead cells in mammalian cells. Calcein AM is a widely used live cell marker. Non-fluorescent calcein AM penetrates the complete cell membrane and is converted into fluorescent calcein by intracellular esterase. Therefore, the number of living cells is indicated by the intensity of green fluorescence in the cytosol, excited at 495 nm and emitting at 530 nm. EthD-III is actually non-fluorescent and impermeable to the complete plasma membrane. In case the integrity of the cell membrane related to cell death is impaired, EthD-III enters the cell and binds to nucleic acid, producing bright red fluorescence in dead cells, which is excited at 530 nm and emitted at 645 nm.
