Mitochondrial Stress Assay
It is well known that mitochondria play a key role in satisfying the energy supply of multiple cellular processes. In addition, mitochondrial stress is associated with a variety of neurodegenerative diseases. Therefore, performing mitochondrial stress assays is very necessary. Based on over 10 years of experience in neuroscience, Creative Biolabs has successfully established a mitochondrial stress detection platform. With our advanced platform and professional team, Creative Biolabs provides customized mitochondrial stress assay services to global customers to solve the challenges of your mitochondrial projects.
Importance of Mitochondrial Stress
Mitochondrial stress generally refers to mitochondrial oxidative stress (MOS). MOS has been implicated in many neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) pathological mechanisms. Scientists have established links between MOS and various NDs, such as Parkinson's disease (PD), Alzheimer's disease (AD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and multiple sclerosis (MS). Furthermore, MOS adversely affects neuronal survival, which lays the foundation for neurodegeneration. Therefore, at present, inhibition of MOS by mitochondria-targeted antioxidants is considered to be an attractive strategy for the treatment of various NDs.

Mitochondrial Stress Assay
A variety of methods and assays for mitochondrial stress detection are available at Creative Biolabs. Fluorescent dye-based assays are a commonly used method to measure mitochondrial stress. In addition, O2 probes also play an important role in mitochondrial stress assay. In our assay, the extracellular O2 probe is quenched by O2 through molecular collisions, so the amount of fluorescent signal is inversely proportional to the amount of extracellular O2 in the sample. O2 consumption rate was calculated from the change in fluorescence signal over time. Extracellular O2 probes have many advantages, such as water solubility and chemical stability, making them ideal and scalable detection strategies for different cell culture conditions.
