Product Overview

Description

Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in astrocytes, Bergman's glia, certain other glia in the central nervous system, satellite cells of peripheral ganglia, and non-myelinated Schwanns of peripheral nerves Strongly and specifically expressed in cells. GFAP expression is also observed in developing neural stem cells, and GFAP levels may be greatly increased in CNS damaged or diseased areas. The formation of GFAP-rich "glial scars" after CNS injury may be one of the reasons for the relatively inefficient reconnection and severing process in adults. Point mutations in the GFAP gene are the cause of Alexander disease (5).
