Blood Brain Barrier (BBB) Kits
The blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a component of the neurovascular unit that acts as a barrier between the capillaries of the central nervous system and neural tissue, rigorously regulating molecular exchange between the blood and brain. Endothelial tight junctions, supported by pericytes and astrocytes, are principally responsible for the high selectivity of the BBB, limiting the passage of a large number of solutes, most antibodies and some antibiotics.
Creative Biolabs offers BBB kits to help you understand the mechanisms of blood-brain barrier integrity, which is critical for the development of technologies that can penetrate the blood-brain barrier and deliver therapeutic or diagnostic molecules to the brain.
Applications
- Personalized Drug Screening: BBBs derived from different neurodegenerative diseases can be used as screening models to identify possible therapeutic drugs for these diseases.
- Disease Models: The BBB plays a significant role in several neurovascular and neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). BBB models can optimize disease research models, more comprehensively summarize in vivo pathological characteristics, and accelerate the development of more human brain tissue models.
- High-Throughput Drug Discovery: BBB kits simplify the production steps of BBB models, and scaling up production can more accurately and quickly analyze whether potential drugs can effectively cross the BBB.
- Environmental Toxin Testing: BBB models derived from animal model systems can help evaluate the toxic effects of environmental contaminants, drugs, and other compounds.
- Biomaterials Research: Materials scientists can use the BBB laboratory model to test new biomaterials, drug delivery vehicles, and tissue engineering strategies.
3D BBB Kits
It is difficult for two-dimensional systems to truly simulate the complexity of the BBB due to the lack of a physiological milieu. The 3D BBB Kit contains human brain microvascular endothelial cells (HBMEC), brain vascular pericytes, and astrocytes, allowing researchers to quickly obtain a 3D BBB and replicate the cellular interactions within the BBB.
