Description

Astrocytes constitute 20-40% of the total number of cells in the mammalian brain and they play multifaceted and vital roles in maintaining neurophysiological function of the central nervous system (CNS) by regulating homeostasis, increasing synaptic plasticity, and sustaining neuroprotective effects. Increasingly evidence suggests astrocytes play the central role in neurodegenerative disorders, stoke and other brain injury.

Immortalized Human Astrocytes from Creative Biolabs, have been developed by immortalizing primary human astrocytes with SV40 Large T antigen, which makes these cells a useful in vitro model for exploring its function and the molecular mechanisms of CNS diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.
