Product Overview

Description

DJ1, also known as PARK7, is a cytoplasmic protein that belongs to the DJ1/ThiJ/PfpI protein superfamily and has multiple functions in eukaryotes and bacteria (1). DJ1 was originally cloned as an oncogene, which was co-transformed with mutated H-ras (2). Then a mutation associated with a rare form of autosomal recessive early-onset Parkinson's disease was found in the DJ1 gene, which led to DJ1 also known as PARK7 (3). One or more functions of DJ1 are not yet clear, and may include redox-sensitive chaperone proteins, oxidative stress sensors, and it can protect neurons from oxidative stress and cell death (4-6). Enhancing DJ1 activity may be a new method for the treatment of chronic neurodegenerative diseases (such as Parkinson's disease) and acute injuries (such as stroke) (7).
