Product Overview

Description

The Ki67 protein was first discovered when trying to generate cancer-specific monoclonal antibodies (1). Monoclonal antibodies were produced that bind to structures in the nucleus of cells that divide but do not bind to resting cells, and were shown to bind to two very large proteins with molecular weights of 345kDa and 395kDa, respectively. These two proteins are derived from alternative transcripts of a single gene. The presence of Ki67 protein (detected with appropriate antibodies) is an indicator of cell proliferation, and Ki67 expression level is one of the most reliable biomarkers of cancer cell proliferation status (2-7).

Immunogen

The recombinant construct contains the second, third, and fourth Ki67 repeats of the human sequence (amino acids 1,111-1,490) expressed and purified in E. coli.
