Assay Description

Beta-amyloid (1-40) neuron poisoning is a useful in vitro model of Alzheimer's disease (AD). This model allows evaluation of different drugs to inhibit the nerves in AD based on the accumulation of neurotoxic amyloid beta peptides The ability of meta-injury. Aβ1-40-induced neurotoxicity assay has the advantage of rapid screening of molecular neuroprotective potential.

In our assay, we incubate rat primary neurons in parallel with the test compound and Aβ1-40 peptide. After 24 hours of incubation, we analyzed different parameters related to all stages of the cell death process. Some of the endpoints we analyzed were cell viability, LDH release, neurite outgrowth, or caspase activation.
