Product Overview

Description

Astrocytes constitute 20-40% of the total number of cells in the mammalian brain and they play multifaceted and vital roles in maintaining neurophysiological function of the central nervous system (CNS) by regulating homeostasis, increasing synaptic plasticity, and sustaining neuroprotective effects. Increasingly evidence suggests astrocytes play the central role in neurodegenerative disorders, stoke and other brain injury. Human astrocytes are a useful in vitro model for exploring its function and the molecular mechanisms of CNS diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.

Primary human astrocytes from Creative Biolabs are isolated from the human brain (cerebral cortex) and can be used to study the function of CNS and how nerve cells interact.

Excellent
The human astrocytes we ordered have been an incredible addition to our neuroscience research
The cells arrived in perfect condition, and their viability was outstanding. They responded well to the various treatments and assays we performed, showing robust and consistent results. This has significantly accelerated our project timeline.
user
Excellent
For our studies on astrocyte-neuron interactions
The cells were shipped quickly and in good condition. They maintained a healthy phenotype throughout our experiments, and the purity was impressive. We observed expected calcium signaling responses, which is critical for our work. Will definitely reorder for future projects.
user
Excellent
We purchased human astrocytes for a project on glioblastoma
They integrated well into our co-culture systems, and their proliferation rate was as advertised. The gene expression profiles matched well with primary astrocytes, giving us confidence in our experimental outcomes. Excellent product.
user
Excellent
I have been very pleased with the astrocytes from this supplier
They were delivered in excellent condition and have been easy to maintain in culture. The cells exhibit typical astrocytic properties, and their response to stress conditions has been consistent and reproducible.
user
Excellent
The astrocytes we received were of outstanding quality
We observed significant and reproducible cytokine release in response to injury models, which was crucial for our study. The technical support team was very helpful in optimizing our protocols.
Q&As
What is the recommended seeding density for culturing human astrocytes?
The recommended seeding density for human astrocytes varies depending on the experimental setup, but typically ranges from 5,000 to 10,000 cells per cm2. This ensures proper cell attachment and growth. Our technical support team can provide guidance based on specific experimental requirements, including advice on scaling up cultures for larger assays or specialized applications.
What quality control measures are in place for human astrocytes?
Our human astrocytes undergo extensive quality control measures, including viability assays, morphological assessments, and mycoplasma testing. Each batch is also tested for expression of astrocytic markers like GFAP. We include a certificate of analysis with every purchase, detailing the results of these tests to ensure that researchers receive high-quality, reliable cells for their experiments.
What types of assays are compatible with human astrocytes?
Human astrocytes can be used in various assays, including immunocytochemistry, calcium imaging, gene expression analysis, and neurotoxicity assays. They are suitable for high-throughput screening and drug discovery applications. Our support team can assist in selecting the appropriate assays and provide guidance on optimizing protocols to obtain reliable and reproducible results from your experiments.
