Description
miR-126 regulates the effects of numerous neurotrophic and neuroprotective growth factors (GF). This miRNA is neurotoxic and increases the vulnerability of neurons to various non-specific and disease-specific toxic factors, including staurosporine (STS), Alzheimer's disease (AD)-related amyloid 1- 42 Oligomer (Aβ1-42) and 6-OHDA. miR-126 targets a series of factors in the PI3K/AKT/GSK-3β and MAPK/ERK signaling pathways. A small increase in this miRNA will cause the down-regulation of these signaling cascades.
