Product Overview

Description

Neurofilament is a 10nm or intermediate filament protein that is specifically found in neurons. It is mainly composed of three main proteins called NF-L, NF-M and NF-H, but other proteins may also exist. NF-H is a neurofilament high or heavy molecular weight polypeptide. It runs at 160-220 kDa on SDS-PAGE gels. It has some variability across species boundaries, but it is actually much smaller, about 110 kDa (1,2). The unusual SDS-PAGE mobility is due to the very high content of negatively charged amino acids, and the non-phosphorylated form runs at approximately 160 kDa on SDS-PAGE.
