Creative Biolabs provides a novel recombinant adeno-associated virus rAAV11 that efficiently retrogradely targets projection neurons. rAAV11 has excellent retrograde labeling ability, can be taken up through axon terminals and infect the cell soma of upstream neurons. Compared with rAAV2-retro, rAAV11 has better retrograde labeling efficiency in some brain regions. In addition, rAAV11 not only exhibits the function of efficient retrograde labeling of projection neurons, but also monitors neuronal activity by expressing various functional elements (Cre recombinase or calcium-sensitive functional probe, etc.). Notably, rAAV11 also targets astrocytes with high efficiency and high specificity. These properties make rAAV11 have broad application prospects in the fields of gene therapy, neural circuit structure and function analysis, and circuit research in neurodegenerative diseases.
