Product Overview

Description

Mouse anti-bovine GFAP antibody, clone 1B4 can recognize glial fibrillary acidic protein or GFAP, class III intermediate filaments. During the development of the central nervous system, GFAP distinguishes astrocytes from other glial cells. It involves various cell functions, such as cell structure and movement, cell communication and the function of the blood-brain barrier. It also plays a role in mitosis by regulating the network of filaments present in the cell. Deficiency of GFAP is the cause of Alexander disease, a rare central nervous system disease that mainly affects men. It is a progressive leukoencephalopathy that causes mental and physical development delays, dementia, seizures and early death.
