Product Overview

Description

Calbindin, also known as calbindin 1 or calbindin-D28k, is a member of the large family of cytoplasmic EF hands containing calcium binding proteins and is expressed in the brain, intestines, kidneys, and pancreas (1-3). It is particularly concentrated in the dendrites and perinuclear cells of Purkinje cells in the cerebellum, but it is also present in many GABAergic interneurons in the cerebral cortex. In most cases, these GABAergic interneurons express only one of the three calbindins, namely calbindin or paralbumin or calretinin. Therefore, these important and physiologically different inhibitory interneurons can be identified and subdivided according to their content in these three proteins (4-6).
