Product Overview

Description

Calretinin is a member of the large family of cytoplasmic calcium-binding proteins and is expressed in the mammalian central nervous system, testis, fallopian tube, and pancreas (1). It contains an "EF hand" type calcium binding motif and is located in certain types of neurons in the brain. Its prototype is paralbumin (2-4). Calretinin is particularly concentrated in some cerebellar granule cells and their parallel fibers, but it is also present in many GABAergic interneurons in the cortex. In most cases, these GABAergic interneurons express only one of three related calcium binding proteins, namely calretinin, calcium binding protein, or paralbumin.
