Description
The KCNQ4 channel has six transmembrane domains (S1-S6), a K+ selective pore, and is a member of the voltage-gated K+ channel family. The majority of DFNA2 missense mutations disrupt the channel's pore shape and have a substantial, dominating negative impact on how well the channel functions. On the other hand, deletion will cause a coding shift, leaving a truncated channel that cannot be used. Clinically, patients with deletions experience less hearing loss than those with missense mutations.
