Description

The mouse anti-human S100 protein antibody recognizes the S100 protein derived from human brain tissue. It is ~21 kDa acidic calcium binding protein synthesized by astrocytes. It can be found that it is mainly of two isotypes, namely α-β heterodimer (S100a) and β-β homodimer (S100b). Members of the S100 protein family are involved in a variety of intracellular and extracellular regulatory activities, such as cell energy metabolism, cytoskeleton modification, cell proliferation and differentiation. When glial cells are damaged, S100 protein leaks into the extracellular matrix and cerebrospinal fluid, and is further released into the blood. In this way, S100 protein can be used as a sensitive and reliable marker for nervous system damage (for example, after brain injury or acute stroke).
