Product Overview

Description

As the name suggests, heat shock proteins were discovered because they are severely upregulated when cells are subjected to a temperature pressure higher than the normal physiological range. They are also expressed in unstressed cells and have normal functions as partners, helping other proteins to fold correctly. If cells or tissues are subjected to heat stress, the demand for molecular chaperones will be greater, so these proteins will be severely upregulated. Different heat shock proteins were originally named based on their SDS-PAGE mobility, so the apparent molecular weight of HSP60 is 60kDa. It is a rich protein in mitochondria and is usually responsible for the transport and refolding of proteins from the cytoplasm into the mitochondrial matrix. HSP60 is a homologue of the well-studied bacterial chaperone GroEL, and both are ATPases (1,2).
