OTX1; OTX2

Full Name

Homeobox protein OTX1/Homeobox protein OTX2

Alternative Names

Homeobox protein OTX1 is a human protein encoded by the OTX1 gene.
Homeobox protein OTX2 is a human protein encoded by the OTX2 gene.

This gene encodes a member of the diploid subfamily of transcription factors containing homologous domains. The encoded protein acts as a transcription factor and may play a role in brain and sensory organ development. The Otx gene is active in the first cheek arch area; which is related to the upper and lower jaws and the two bones of the ear. Similar proteins in mice are necessary for the normal development of the brain and sensory organs; and may cause epilepsy.
