Description

Aa10 antibody reacts with β - tubulin III (a structural protein of about 50-55 kDa, a component of tubulin). Tubulin is the main component of microtubule in cytoskeleton, which is assembled by heterodimer of α and β tubulin subunits. The β III subtype of tubulin, also known as neuron specific class III β tubulin, is mainly expressed in neurons and is widely used as a marker to distinguish neurons from other cell types. β tubulin III contributes to the formation of microtubules in neuronal bodies and axons. This function involves GTP binding and plays a role in axonal transport, neuronal proliferation and differentiation. It is highly expressed in several types of cancer and is a predictor and prognostic marker for various tumors. For example, it is not found in normal glial cells but in tumors. Aa10 antibody is expected to recognize all mammalian homologues of β - tubulin III.
