Description

The development of the central nervous system includes the development of the brain, spinal cord, optic nerve and auditory system. In the neural tube, stem cells produce two major types The cells that make up most of the nervous system: neurons and glia. Both types of cells differentiate into many different types with highly specialized functions and shapes. The development of the peripheral and central nervous system begins in the early stages of embryogenesis and can be tracked by using lineage antibodies specific to each stage of neuron development. This intronless gene encodes a member of the SOX (SRY-related HMG-box) family of transcription factors involved in the regulation of embryonic development and in the determination of the cell fate. The encoded protein may act as a transcriptional regulator after forming a protein complex with other proteins.
