Description

The olfactory bulb is located in the forebrain of vertebrates and its function is to receive nerve endings/input from the nasal cavity. The sense of smell is related to the nerve tissue of the olfactory bulb. Immortalized mouse olfactory bulb cells (OBL21a) are immortalized using a non-replicating retrovirus carrying the avian Myc gene. It is a subclone of immortalized mouse olfactory bulb cells (OBL21) but expresses neuronal markers such as neurofilament (NF), tetanus toxin (TT), GFAP and A2B5. OBL21a cells are non-tumorigenic and have a pluripotent morphology. It is a valuable in vitro tool for research related to olfactory bulb function and biology.
