Product Overview

Description

The olfactory bulb is located in the forebrain of vertebrates and its function is to receive nerve endings/input from the nasal cavity. The sense of smell is related to the nerve tissue of the olfactory bulb. Immortalized mouse olfactory bulb cells (OBC1) are immortalized using a non-replicating retrovirus carrying the avian Myc gene. The cells exhibit NF (neurofilament) and GalC (marker of the oligodendrocyte lineage) markers. OBC1 cells have been shown to form tumors in animal models and therefore have tumorigenic ability. It is a valuable in vitro tool for research related to olfactory bulb function and biology.
