Description

Immortalized mouse olfactory plaque cells (OP27) are temperature-sensitive clones derived from the E10 mouse olfactory plaque. At an allowable temperature (33C), OP27 expresses a transcription profile that represents the middle and late developmental stages of the olfactory receptor neuron (ORN) lineage, including O/E-1 and transcripts of BF-1 and Pax-6. It does not express olfactory marker protein (OMP), indicating that this is not a mature ORN. This cell line can be induced to differentiate into mature bipolar ORN-like cell populations by all-trans retinoic acid. OP27 can be used to examine the embryonic events that lead to the establishment of a mature ORN phenotype, and to examine factors that regulate the timing of different types of olfactory substrate-derived neurons and glial production.
