Product Overview

Description

The olfactory bulb is located in the forebrain of vertebrates and its function is to receive nerve endings/input from the nasal cavity. The sense of smell is related to the nerve tissue of the olfactory bulb. Immortalized mouse olfactory bulb cells (OBC13) are immortalized using a non-replicating retrovirus carrying the avian Myc gene. It is a sister derivative of immortalized mouse olfactory bulb cells (OBC1). The cells exhibited GalC (marker of oligodendrocyte lineage) but no NF (neurofilament marker). Voltage-dependent potassium channels are also expressed. OBC13 cells have been shown to form tumors in animal models and therefore have tumorigenic ability. It is a valuable in vitro research tool related to olfactory bulb function and biology.
