Description

Mouse anti-human ALIX antibody recognizes apoptosis 6 interacting protein, also known as ALG-2 interacting protein 1, ALG-2 interacting protein X, PDCD6 interacting protein, apoptosis-related gene 2-interacting protein X, Dopamine receptor interacting protein 4 and programmed cell death 6 interacting protein.
The PDCD6IP (ALIX) gene encodes a protein that plays a role in the ESCRT pathway during the shedding phase of cytokinesis, the formation of endosomal vesicles in the cavity, and the budding of enveloped viruses. Studies using mouse cells have shown that overexpression of this protein can prevent cell apoptosis. In addition, the product of PDCD6IP binds to the product of PDCD6 gene in a calcium-dependent manner, and PDCD6 gene is a protein required for cell apoptosis. The PDCD6IP product also binds to endocytic proteins, which regulate the shape of the membrane during endocytosis. Overexpression of PDCD6IP products and endorphins leads to vacuolation of the cytoplasm, which may be partly a protective effect against cell death. For PDCD6IP, several transcript variants encoding alternative splicing of different isoforms have been discovered. A related pseudogene has been identified on chromosome 15 (provided by RefSeq, January 2012).
