Product Overview

Description

The development of the central nervous system includes the development of the brain, spinal cord, optic nerve and auditory system. In the neural tube, stem cells produce two major types The cells that make up most of the nervous system: neurons and glia. Both types of cells differentiate into many different types with highly specialized functions and shapes. The development of the peripheral and central nervous system begins in the early stages of embryogenesis and can be tracked by using lineage antibodies specific to each stage of neuron development. This gene encodes a homodimeric transmembrane protein which is a major glycoprotein of the vascular endothelium. This protein is a component of the transforming growth factor beta receptor complex and it binds to the beta1 and beta3 peptides with high affinity. Mutations in this gene cause hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, also known as Osler-Rendu-Weber syndrome 1, an autosomal dominant multisystemic vascular dysplasia. This gene may also be involved in preeclampsia and several types of cancer. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
