EDNRA receptors are mainly localized in the vascular smooth muscle cells, where they are the predominant sub-type, and mediate vasoconstriction and proliferation. Selective EDNRA antagonists are effective in the treatment of heart failure, essential hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, and atherosclerosis.
