Description

The rat anti-Mouse PLVAP antibody can recognize mouse plasma membrane vesicle-associated protein (PLVAP), a protein of approximately 60 kDa, also known as MECA-32 and PV-1. PLVAP is a transmembrane homodimer associated with caveolae and fenestrae of endothelial cells. In adult and embryonic mice, PLVAP is mainly expressed on endothelial tissues, but shows limited distribution in bone, heart, and brain tissues. It is reported that in embryonic mice, the expression of PLVAP on the vasculature related to the blood-brain barrier is developmentally regulated. In humans, PLVAP is selectively upregulated in a variety of high-grade brain tumors, including glioblastoma and metastatic cancer, as well as other brain diseases related to the destruction of the blood-brain barrier, such as acute ischemia. PLVAP represents a new marker of brain tumor angiogenesis and blood-brain barrier integrity, and is a potential therapeutic target.
