Description

Cellular senescence is a stable state of cell cycle arrest, which may have a negative impact on the regeneration ability of tissues, and may lead to the progression of inflammation and various aging-related diseases. Detecting the progress of cellular senescence in vivo is still crucial for monitoring the effects of senescent drugs and assessing the early onset or accumulation of senescent cells.

At CBL, we have developed a naphthalimide-styrene-based probe (HeckGal) to detect cell senescence in vivo and in vitro. HeckGal is hydrolyzed by the increased lysosomal β-galactosidase activity of senescent cells, resulting in fluorescence emission. In all cases, HeckGal can clearly detect aging in vitro and in vivo in tissues and tumors. The fluorophore tool provides a potential technique for detecting aging in aging or damaged tissues.
