Description
Mycoplasmas are small, round or filamentous prokaryotes that lack cell walls. It is estimated that at least 15-35% of cell cultures are contaminated with mycoplasma. Mycoplasma contamination can change many aspects of cell physiology without causing significant turbidity of the culture medium and significant effects on cell growth. Mycoplasma contamination affects up to 80% of continuous cell culture. If undetected, mycoplasma contamination will have a significant impact on the quality and reliability of your cell culture preparation. Because Mycoplasma is small and easily deformed, it can pass through a 0.22µm filter. The lack of cell walls makes mycoplasma unresponsive to common antibiotics that target cell wall synthesis. All cell stocks and new cultures entering the facility must be tested for the presence of mycoplasma, and all cell cultures should be routinely tested (eg, every 2-3 months) to maintain a mycoplasma-free environment.

Many methods can be used to detect Mycoplasma, including isolation in broth/agar culture, direct or indirect fluorescent staining, ELISA, immunostaining, direct or indirect PCR. Among these methods, direct PCR is the most sensitive, specific, and convenient method when optimizing primer design.

The Mycoplasma detection kit is designed to detect mycoplasma infection in cell culture in less than two hours. It can detect mycoplasma from cell lysate and cell culture medium. The sensitivity is up to 10-20 copies of target DNA, which is transformed into less than 10 species of mycoplasma. The kit can detect the top five common species of Mycoplasma, namely M. Hyorhinis, M. Arginini, M. Orale, M. Fermentans, A. laidlawii, which represent 98% of tissue culture infections. Mycoplasma detection kit can also detect mycoplasma, asexual body, asexual body and spirochete of other genera.
