Description

The ribosome-inactivating protein saporin binds to a targeting agent (anything that is recognized on the cell surface and internalized). The targeting conjugate is administered to the cell (either in vitro or in vivo). Targeting agents seek out and bind their targets on the cell surface. The conjugate is internalized and the saporin disengages from the targeting agent, inactivating the ribosome, leading to protein inhibition and ultimately cell death.
