Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS) Drug Discovery Service

Creative Biolabs offers a wide range of services in a custom approach tailor-made to your primary lateral sclerosis (PLS) research needs. As a leading service company for neurological disorders solution provider, Creative Biolabs has more than 20 years of experience in disease mechanism of action (MOA) study, generating and characterizing disease models and applying them for drug testing projects.

Introduction

PLS is a neurodegenerative disorder of the adult motor system. Characterized by a slowly progressive upper motor neuron syndrome, there is no single test that confirms a diagnosis of PLS. Although no test is specific for PLS, some neurodiagnostic tests are supportive, including absent or delayed central motor conduction times, and changes in the precentral gyrus or corticospinal tracts on MRI, DTI, or MR Spectroscopy.

Emerging Technology

A range of neuroimaging and neurophysiological tools have clear potential to quantify the upper motor neuron (UMN) lesion and may help to refine the diagnostic pathway for PLS. Cerebrospinal fluid chitinases show a differential pattern of involvement in PLS compared with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Besides, neurofilaments are an emerging biofluid biomarker reflecting the intensity of neuronal loss in a range of neurological disorders. Currently, there is no cure for PLS. Most treatment strategies aim at alleviating symptoms and improving functioning. Riluzole, the only FDA-approved drug for ALS, has not shown any clear benefit in patients with PLS.

Related Service at Creative Biolabs

The focus of wet biomarker studies is the identification of serum and CSF indicators that can distinguish PLS from ALS. Creative Biolabs provides advanced capabilities for in-depth assessments of tissue parameters and supports each stage of the histology workflow from sample preparation, staining, and pathologist assessment. We ensure high-quality data production to progress your programs forward. To better understand the mechanisms of neurodegeneration in PLS, Creative Biolabs has generated different mouse models based on PLS-linked mutations, such as DCTN/Dynactin 1, ALS2/Alsin, OPTN/Optineurin, C9Orf72, FIG4/Phosphoinositide 5-phosphatase, SETX/Senataxin, SPG7/Paraplegin and UBQLN2/Ubiquilin 2.
