Description

The process of creating human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) involves reprogramming somatic cells through the introduction of specific reprogramming factors such as Oct4, Sox2, Klf4, and c-Myc. These hiPSCs serve as a sustainable source for various types of differentiated human cells. Retroviruses, particularly VSV-G pseudotyped retroviruses, are effective at integrating heritable genes into dividing cells, with a wide range of targets including both mammalian and non-mammalian cells. They are commonly used in ES cells as they are often silenced. The high reprogramming efficiency of retroviruses makes them a popular choice for generating iPSCs.
