Description
Autophagy is a regulated mechanism that disassembles unnecessary or dysfunctional cellular components. Targeted constituents are enclosed by autophagosomes, double-membraned vesicles. LC3s, including MAP1-LC3A, B, and C, are autophagosomal membrane proteins and biomarkers of autophagy. They bind to PE to form autophagosomes that fuse with lysosomes to break down enclosed components. LC3A and B staining minimally co-localize in the cytoplasm, indicating that only one LC3 protein is involved in relevant autophagosome formation.
