Description

This kit is designed to detect degenerating neurons in fixed tissue sections of the central nervous system of experimental animals.

This kit has been widely used in animal research under various experimental conditions. This kit has been shown to be extremely specific and sensitive for the detection of degenerated neuronal cell bodies, axons and terminals in the brain and spinal cord. It is particularly useful for detecting small numbers of degenerated neurons that may not be demonstrated with conventional histopathological techniques.

Principle

The rationale for this kit is based on the discovery that certain components of neurons undergoing degeneration, such as lysosomes, axons and terminals, become particularly arginophilic. Under certain conditions, these cellular elements bind silver ions with high affinity. After reduction, silver ions in the metal particles are visible under light or electron microscopes.
